J. Edward Pearson, Jr.

J. Edward Pearson has 10 years of experience in the healthcare information sector. Prior to co-founding empactHealth.com in July 1999, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for HIE, Inc., a healthcare integration solutions provider. HIE provides infrastructure that allows enterprises to keep the information systems they have, while adding new technologies, and serves clients such as the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. While at HIE and before assuming the CFO post, he also served under contract to Vanderbilt University as the chief financial officer for Vanderbilt Medical Center's Trauma Patient Care Center. In this position, he was part of the management team that developed a comprehensive business plan encompassing all aspects of trauma care at Vanderbilt.
Before HIE, Mr. Pearson served as executive vice president and chief financial officer for Inforum, Inc., a leading provider of strategic planning and marketing software and content for the healthcare industry. During his tenure, the company successfully completed its private financing, initial public offering, merger with the MEDSTAT Group, Inc., and realized a customer renewal rate in excess of 95 percent. Mr. Pearson was responsible for all financial management of the company and customer operations that, at the time, served over 800 hospital clients and a number of managed care organizations.
Mr. Pearson earned his B.B.A. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Scott A. Smith

Scott A. Smith has 18 years of information technology experience, defining architectures for information systems and building effective Internet strategies for high-tech companies. Prior to co-founding empactHealth.com, he was the president and chief executive officer of Smithware, Inc., a worldwide leader in providing software development and analysis tools for embedded database system engineers and administrators. In early 1998, he negotiated and completed the merger of Smithware with Pervasive Software of Austin, Texas, and was the combined company's vice president of product strategy. As such, he defined its overall Internet product strategy and facilitated the acquisition and development of new Internet application and server technologies. Before founding Smithware, Mr. Smith was the director of management information systems for McClure Department Stores.
Mr. Smith has a Bachelors Degree in mathematics from Vanderbilt University.
Ward H. Brown
Vice President of Operations, empactHealth.com
Ward H. Brown held several management positions within Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation prior to co-founding empactHealth.com. Most recently, he was an assistant vice president and was responsible for Columbia's supply chain operations. In that capacity, Mr. Brown worked closely on the development of a shared services strategy for supply chain management which is currently being implemented. Prior to that, he was the chief financial officer for the Materials Management group within Columbia/HCA, and also held roles in operations support and internal audit. Mr. Brown began his career with Ernst & Young LLP and has eight years experience in the healthcare industry.
Mr. Brown earned his B.B.A. degree from Belmont University.
M. Todd Abner
Vice President of Business Development, empactHealth.com
M. Todd Abner held several management positions with Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation prior to co-founding empactHealth.com. Most recently, Mr. Abner served as the chief financial officer for HealthTrust Purchasing Group, L.P., a Columbia/HCA subsidiary. In this capacity, he had responsibility for all financial functions within the organization, including organizational infrastructure development and maintenance. Additionally, he managed the financial relationships with Columbia/HCA's largest supply partners. Prior to joining Columbia/HCA, Mr. Abner worked for Ernst & Young LLP as a senior financial and EDI auditor. He brings substantial knowledge of healthcare and hospital operations to empactHealth.com.
Mr. Abner received his M.B.A., with an emphasis in finance, from the Jack C. Massey School of Business at Belmont University.
Thomas A. Ranseen
Vice President of Corporate Marketing, empactHealth.com
Thomas A. Ranseen has 21 years of experience in the healthcare industry, the last 10 in early stage healthcare information and technology companies. Most recently, he was the vice president of marketing and product development at Digital Medical Systems, a Nashville-based healthcare Internet company. Prior to Digital Medical, he spent time with two healthcare information start-ups, Criterion Health Strategies and PhyINFO. As senior vice president of marketing and product development at Inforum for five years, he was a member of the senior management team that took the company public in 1991, and he successfully developed and marketed 15 products. Mr. Ranseen has held positions with the Hospital Corporation of America, James A. Hamilton Associates (a health care consulting firm now named Hamilton/KSA), and the Fischer-Mangold Group, an emergency physician contract group. He also worked as the administrator of ambulatory services at Wake County Medical in Raleigh, N.C.
Mr. Ranseen graduated with a B.A. from Duke University and a M.H.A from George Washington University.
Robert O. Bomar
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Prior to joining empactHealth.com, Mr. Bomar was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of International DiverseFoods, Inc., a multi-facility food processing manufacturer. His experience also includes ten years with Price Waterhouse LLP, predominantly serving healthcare, distribution, electronic commerce and other service-based clients. He has extensive expertise in acquisition due to diligence, capital structure decisions, start-up companies, public and private securities offerings, public company reporting and administration. Mr. Bomar earned his M.B.A., with an emphasis in Finance, from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University and also has a B.A. from Vanderbilt. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
